Summer program in Rome

A six-week study-abroad program designed for students wishing to integrate their study of Italian language and culture with a full-immersion experience of living in Rome.

The summer program is open to students with little or no knowledge of Italian, as well as those with advanced proficiency. The program provides the opportunity to learn the language as a beginner or to build on prior skills, while also pursuing the study of history, history of art, and classical and modern civilization.

Semester program in Rome

Full semester study abroad programs are offered in both the fall and the spring. The semester program provides the opportunity to pursue Italian language and cultural studies over a longer term, allowing for a wider range of subjects to be covered in greater depth. Ten levels of Italian language courses (beginner to advanced and skills perfection) are offered, covering grammar, speaking skills, reading and writing.

The semester academic program is concentrated around a core of courses including:

  • Italian History
  • Roman Art and Architecture
  • Baroque Rome and Its Masterpieces
  • Art of the Renaissance
  • Classical, Modern and Contemporary Italian Civilization
  • Rome: Urban Development Through the Centuries
  • Music History

Students visit sites outside Rome as well (Venice, Florence, Siena, Naples, Pompeii) for first-hand study of original works of art and architecture. Guided tours are led by specialists in the different fields.

Tailor made programs

Torre di Babele works with academic institutions to design specific study-abroad programs to meet requirements for both credit and non-credit courses. Universities are welcome to propose programs to meet their department requirements, and these can be planned and implemented throughout the year.
In addition to language studies, the school designs courses covering content areas ranging from Italian literature to Italian cinema and the film industry, to interior and landscape design, as well as a host of other subject areas to further studentsí knowledge of Italian language and culture, as well as applied disciplines.
