Are all teachers mother tongue?

All Italian language courses are taught by highly trained mother tongue teachers specialized in the teaching of Italian as a foreign language.

Which teaching method is used?

The teaching methods used at our Italian language school are based on communication. Students actively exercise the four fundamental functions of the language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Particular attention, however, is given to conversation, to develop in the student an increasing capacity to express himself/herself and communicate in Italian from the very beginning of the course. Naturally this method includes the study of the rules of Italian syntax and grammar, which are essential to language learning, but which, alone, are not sufficient for gaining a real command of the Italian language.

How can I pay for the school?

All payments must be completed by the third day of the course. We can accept credit card (Visa or Mastercard), Bank cheques in €uro or cash (mind: if the total cost of your course exceeds the amount of 1000 €uros you cannot pay in cash). You may also make a bank transfer, bank details will be given to you by the secretary.

Which extracurricular activities are offered?

The school's cultural program makes it possible for you to enjoy the city and its events while learning Italian (esempi PDF)

How much money I need weekly?

It is almost impossible to give you an idea of how much money you will need as this depends on you spending habits. Anyway, Rome is not expensive at all. In the apartment you have the possibility to prepare your meals and the city is one, big, open air museum!

Do I need a visa?

We advise Non European students who wish to stay less than 3 months to apply for a Tourist Visa.

Students who wish to stay longer than 3 months must apply for a Study Visa; in this case the following documents are required:

  • A valid passport
  • A certificate of enrollment from Torre di Babele.
  • A declaration of available financies for the period in which the student will be attending the course
  • An international valid health insurance policy.

Students who wish to stay up to one year, or longer, must apply for a Study Visa type D which can be renewed in Italy.

Each Country, however, may have different agreement with the Italian Government. We suggest therefore to ask details to the Italian Embassy or Consulate of your Country.

Keep in mind however that:

·         the Italian Embassy will not release visas for courses less than 20 hours weekly.

·         they require full payment of the course in advance.

·         the total procedure will probably take a certain number of days or weeks.

I would like to get a certification. Which one?

Every student will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.

Once a month, students who have completed the fourth and sixth level, have the opportunity to take an exam in order to receive a “Torre di Babele” Diploma, which certifies an advanced level of mastery of Italian as a second language.

C.I.L.S. (Certificate of Italian as a Foreign Language)

Our school also operates as an authorized centre for the exams offered by the University of Siena to obtain a C.I.L.S. (Certificate of Italian as a Foreign Language). This certificate is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The school offers preparation courses for the C.I.L.S exam, which takes place twice a year (June and December) at our school as in other schools and Italian Cultural Institutes abroad.
